Unforgettable Encounters in the Wild
The Journey: From Settler Ruins to Mountain Vistas
A Curated Route Through Untamed Landscapes
Into the Wild...
A Guided Expedition Across Our Reserve
From historic valley trails to the summit of the Cape Fold Mountains — your front-row seat to the heartbeat of the Karoo.
The Red House Trail: Where History Meets the Horizon
Your adventure begins on the Red House Trail, a path steeped in the quiet history of our valley. We don’t just drive past; we pause at the hauntingly beautiful ruins of the original settlers. Standing there, amidst the wild fynbos, you get a palpable sense of the resilience required to carve a life out of this landscape decades ago. It is a rare moment of reflection, set against the backdrop of an untamed valley that has remained virtually unchanged for generations.
Scaling the Cape Fold Mountains
As we leave the valley floor, the landscape shifts dramatically. Our vehicles navigate the ancient, jagged ridges of the Cape Fold Mountains—some of the most spectacular geological formations in the world. As we ascend, the scale of the reserve opens up beneath you. You’ll witness the dramatic transition from low-lying plains to high-altitude mountain vistas, offering photo opportunities that are simply unparalleled.
The Dam: A Theatre of Wildlife
Our journey culminates at our private dam, a literal oasis in the Karoo. It is a hive of activity where the reserve’s residents gather to quench their thirst. Here, we trade the sound of the engine for the symphony of the bush. We take time at the viewpoint to watch the diverse waterfowl navigate the reeds, while overhead, you’ll keep your eyes peeled for the majestic Fish Eagle. If you’re lucky, you’ll hear that unmistakable, high-pitched cry—the true sound of the African wilderness—as it surveys its territory.
An Experience Tailored to Your Rhythm
We know that the bush changes its character throughout the day, and we want you to see it all:
The Dawn Chorus (Morning Drives): Witness the reserve as it shakes off the cool night air. The wildlife is most active during these early hours, making it the perfect time for sightings of antelope and grazing herds.
The Golden Hour (Sunset Drives): As the sun dips behind the mountain range, the landscape is painted in deep oranges and purples. It is the perfect time to toast the day with a sundowner in hand, watching the evening hunters stir.
The Full Horizon (Combo Drives): For the true enthusiast, our full-day experience captures the transition of the reserve from the first light of dawn to the final glow of twilight.
Refreshments & Comfort
No African adventure is complete without a pause. We provide a curated selection of light snacks and refreshing beverages, allowing you to settle in and truly absorb the silence and scale of the surroundings. Whether you are a photography buff, a bird watcher, or simply someone looking to reconnect with the earth, our guides will tailor the pace and focus of the drive to ensure your experience is nothing short of exceptional.

Wonderful, child-friendly lodge with simple yet very clean and tastefully designed chalets that feature both an outdoor braai and a fireplace to heat the chalet (4 bags of fire wood as well as fire starters were provided upon arrival). The staff and owners were very welcoming and helpful, making us feel as part of the family - special thanks to Elijah who pointed out game, was always at hand to assist as well as cooking us delicious dinner. Jan, the owner, treated us to a beautiful game drive including a picnic with a view over the waterhole. We got caught in the rain and it made the experience even better. Worth staying two nights or more to really unwind, enjoy the nature and see some game. A baby cot is available upon request.Posted on Google Alexander FreudenbergTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. For a 3 star self catering you should not expect much. Good for a 1 night visit. Take a cell phone battery bank and a ups battery for lights and your own fan. No cellphone signal so prepare to be offline but they do have adequate unsecured wifi
